It looks like touchscreen technology isn’t reserved to cellphones anymore. Apparently, HP is looking to reinvent it’s portfolio over the next 16 months and one of the improvements to be made is touchscreen for their laptops. They’ve already debuted the TouchSmart PC, but The Wall Street Journal is reporting that HP plans to have a touchscreen laptop out by the end of the year. It seems Frog Design will be helping HP get the model ready by developing the new software and hardware. Not to miss out on the cellphone bandwagon, it’s reported that HP will also release a touch screen cellphone in Europe, but currently there’s no word about a release in the US.

g1 No, you’re not being paranoid if you’re in public and surfing the internet. Computer screens are like a magnet for human eyes, whether you want people looking at what you’re looking at or not. Traditional privacy filters tend to leave your view a bit murky as well, so LG has announced the solution for the privacy vs. clarity problem. It’s new Viewing Angle Image Control display has the ability to have its viewable area cropped from just 175 down to 60, via a push of a small button. This change is not supposed to impact the brightness of the screen in any way. It’s not really the first screen which we’ve seen this ability from, but it’salready in mass production and will be showing up in laptops every where, very soon.

Samsung has all eyes focused on them after announcing plans to enter the US laptop market with five different branded models. The laptops will be available in both online and traditional retail shops and the models featured will be the NC10, Q310, X360, X460, P460, and the P560. The N10 starts with a screen size of just 10 inches, while the P560 sports a nice 15.4 screen. The prices for these babies range from just $499 for the small NC10, all the way up to $1,49 for the P560. It looks like Samsung has thought this through and is hoping to target the entire laptop market by offering a wide range of laptops for a wide range of budgets.

With the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 already having shipped, it comes as a bit of a confusion as to why Tesco is selling a moderately unrecognizable Dell laptop for £299. The image shown beow is clearly the Inspiron Mini 9, but it’s labeled as an Inspiron Z530. What’s more confusing then that is the fact that there is currently no 12 inch Atom based laptop model available by Dell under any product model. Plus, there’s nothing listed anywhere about the Z530.

These specs do match up directly with the unreleased 12.1 inch E Slim offered by Dell. You’re looking at a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 2.6lb weight, 12 in WXGA 1,366 x 768 resolution display, 40GB hard drive, and Ubuntu Linux.

I guess we’ll have to wait until October 6th to find out more!

Prices of Solid State Disks (SSD) are dropping like crazy recently. Don’t believe me? Check out what Dell has started offering:

Their XPS line-up has been well known for having versatility all around. But being able to buy a 128GB SSD for the XPS M1330 and M1530 laptops for just $450 is quite the price cut.

While this is nowhere near as good as the type-o we saw reducing the price of the upgraded SSD to $80 less than the regular system, it’s a step in the right direction for the format that everyone is craving to get in larger quantities.

The drives are direct from Samsung too, so that’s got to same something for the quality.

We’ve already addressed the fact that notebooks were once called laptops, but due to the heat they produce, the name has all but disappeared to prevent a generation of internet savvy individuals from being unable to produce offspring. Plenty of solutions have been released to rectify the dangers of placing a heavily heated device on ones lap, including devices with and without fans. But none of them have looked nearly as bad ass as the ThermalTake T2000 Notebook Cooler.

360laptop File this under “cool, but totally unnecessary.”

Portable Gaming Solutions has stuffed an Xbox 360 into a suitcase. Not only that, but the thing still works! (assuming you don’t get red ringed).

Yeah, it looks like a laptop – an ugly one at that – but if you need to get a round of CoD4 in while driving, you need to drop the $550 on this.

ZPC-GX31These gimmicky computers need to stop. If the computer is a laptop, then it needs to be compact while still fitting your needs. If the computer is a desktop, then all it needs to do is fit your needs and not take up an entire wall. The ZPC-GX31 is neither of those and thus, a gimmicky computer.

The ZPC-GX31 looks like a laptop that forgot to come with a screen. If all you have room for is a keyboard and screen then clearly, you meant to buy a laptop and just got confused. While the system does offer some really competitive features for it’s size, it’s half a laptop! You can’t upgrade it like a desktop!

And what happens when you get angry and instinctively bash your keyboard into your monitor?

Asus Eee PCIf you haven’t heard about the Eee PC from Asus yet, you’re clearly not a blogger. As someone always on the go, I’ve had the need for a smaller pc that has good connectivity, light weight, and wasn’t going to break the bank. That’s where the Eee PC came in. The 7inch laptop is more than capable of handling every need that I could possibly have on the go through built in options or modifications and with a modded version of Windows on my 4GB SSD, I’m up and running in under 30 seconds.

But just a few months after I’ve purchased this model, it looks like Asus is already finalizing the specs of their 8.9inch model. I understand their desire to compete with other laptops, but once they start offering more features and increase the price, why wouldn’t consumers purchase a different system all together? This is a poor idea and it’s going to blow up in their face.

Asus has also yet to included the attractive women accessory seen in the picture above

UPOP Mobile PCMany companies have created mobile PC’s in hopes that they would become the next generation of computers that will replace the laptops. The only company that has come close to achieving this dream is UPOP – a Korean company.

UPOP has just released what is said to be a mobile PC that is similar to the PMP – except this gadget has much more to offer. It has been built with 30 GB of memory (or 60GB if you want it), and an SD expansion. It operates under Windows CE 5.0 Professional and has a 4.8” TFT screen that allows you to view WMV, MPG, DAT, VOB, and AVI video files. Read the rest of this entry…
