Sylvania’s first leap into the world of netbooks was a flop to say the least, as they simply rebranded the Cloudbook to suit their needs. With the new G netbook coming closer to launch, not much was expected out of it until the price tag and specs were revealed.
For $299 you’ll be getting a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and an 8.9in screen with 1024×600 resolution. The system itself comes loaded with XP or Ubuntu, but unfortunately you can’t customize it’s ugly appearance.
If they can keep the price tag at this range, look out Asus!

My obsession with these mini-laptops continues.
Dell has just released screen shots of their newest laptop that might give the current reigning champions like the Asus Eee PC and the Cloudbook a run for their money.
This device was seen being carried around by none other than Michael Dell during a recent convention, and with the power Dell holds over the general audience, we may actually see them taking charge in this field due to the familiarity people have with them.
With all the newer models of mini-laptops coming forward with Atom based processors, it looks like Dell picked the perfect time to make the jump.

Not to be left behind, it looks like Intel’s own Classmate PC is going to be receiving a product overhaul as well and find it’s way distributed into even more hands than originally planned. Unlike the other Mini Laptop makers, Intel’s focus is inline with OLPC in the attempts to provide children the world over with a personal computer.
The initial launch in Malaysia must have sent out enough interest that they’ve found it worthwhile to keep up the competition with OLPC, but they’ve un-pigeonholed their market. The Cloudbook and Eee PC have been hot items for those that can afford the device on their own, so was this really a smart decision after all to jump in so late in the game? We shall see!
At least they picked a new color scheme.

The Everex Cloudbook made some splashes when it entered into the market on the wake of the OLPC program. Unfortunately, so did several other small and affordable laptops. While many of the other systems went for ultimate portability and durability using SSD, Everex decided that bigger was better with their 30GB HD. But just like all of the other small laptop developers out there, they’ve hit the smallest and decided to just make their newer models bigger.
The Everex Cloudbook MAX has been revealed to include a plethora of new things under it’s bigger shell. You’ll get to enjoy a 8.9-inch WVGA display, 80GB HD, 2GB DDR2 Ram, 1.6GHz VIA C7-M ULV processor, Windows Vista default OS, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, 2 megapixel webcam, and a four hour battery. Oh and don’t forget WiMAX.
Unless of course, you’re in Australia.
