The Azentek SmartMirror was a hot topic in August, with only a few units available, many back orders and waiting lists began popping up, along with a few disgruntled customers who were tired of waiting. If you find yourself in the disgruntled customer category, today is your lucky day! Azentek is ramping up production of their GPS mirrors and stated the mirrors will be available at major retailers by the end of the year. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, the $800 rear view mirror crams a 4″ GPS unit alongside its standard sizedrear view mirror. The GPS system doesn’t skimp on features and has hands free Bluetooth calling, a built in speaker, and text to speech functionality. The mirror also has an SD card slot for expansion.

on September 23rd, 2008 10:14 AMThe T-Mobile live press conference has just come to an end and it looks like Google Android is going to be a hit. The demo videos they’ve shown has allowed us to see what the phone can really do.
The launch phone will be out for $179 for a 2 year contract on T-Mobile. The launch date is October 22nd and the phone is looking pretty sharp. It weighs about 5.6 ounces and measures up at 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 inches. The screen is a sharp 480 x 320 HVGA display and the phone takes full advantage of the 3G network and GPS.
Of course you’ll be able to take excellent pictures on the 3.1 megapixel camera, talk for up to 5 hours, and take full advantage of the 8GB internal memory.
It is missing Bluetooth stereo and video capture right now. But that’s what apps are for!

on September 9th, 2008 11:29 AMHTC has been pumping out more information for one of their latest phones, the HTC Opal, and it looks like this could be the phone to rightfully take the place of the HTC Touch.
Recently some information has been leaked around the net providing insight into what exactly this phone will be capable of doing. The HTC Opal will be running the new TouchFLO 3D UI that operates over the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. It will carry the same processor as it’s predecessor (TI OMAP 850) but with the following additional features: quad-band GSM / EDGE, WiFi, MicroSD slot, Bluetooth 2.0, 2 megapixel camera, and a 2.8 inch 240 x 320 resoltuion touchscreen.

on August 14th, 2008 7:54 AMThe FCC has been a great source of information in the past few years, revealing plenty about new gadgets before they are even spoken about at conferences. So when Sony tried to slide their PSP-3001 under the radar and straight through the FCC, we had to wonder why.
The design is lacking more than anything else. The only feature that it looks to have over the PSP-2001 is that it is being tested for use on the 2.4GHz spectrum allowing it to connect to 802.11b WiFi. The rest is a road of disappointment.
There’s no GPS, 802.11 N, Bluetooth, or redesigned mic and home button location.
Perhaps more is hidden in the confidentiality documents that Sony requested. Only time will tell.

on July 22nd, 2008 10:41 AMGPS devices are great, but one of the biggest issues that people seem to run into is where to place them. You want maximum visibility of the road and of the GPS unit so that you can avoid that person on their bike yet still make that sharp right hand turn. So where’s the best place to put it?
Apparently, in your mirror.
The DS400GB SmartMirror is a really neat addition to any car. Loaded with Navigon Mobile Navigator 6.5, a 4 inch touch screen, integrated speakers, bluetooth, and an SD card reader, you’ll be good to go. If you’re car has rear-view cameras, it also has two inputs for those as well.
The DS400GB SmartMirror launches August 1st for $799.

Bluetooth speakerphones come in all shapes and sizes, but I’ve yet to come across one that offers so much in such a little package. The BlueAnt Supertooth 3 portable speakerphone was made with the intentions of allowing cell phone users to enjoy a much more comfortable hands free calling solution, rather then break the law by holding your phone to your ear.
The BlueAnt uses text-to-speech to let you navigate through your address book in six different languages. It even reads out your caller ID verbally so you don’t have to avert your eyes from the road. Best of all, it can be paired to 8 devices at once, and will switch to the one receiving the call when needed.

If using dotted paper has turned you away from purchasing a bluetooth pen in the past, you may want to check out SMK Corp’s new Wireless Input Pen. Capable of transfering your writing directly on to the screen from any surface or even mid air, this bluetooth pen is a step forward for an industry that’s had no real appeal since tablet pc’s took off.
The potential for this type of device to replace laser points is valid, but trying to get people to abandon a LASER for something that looks like a novelty pen is going to be very difficult. We’ll see what happens once they’ve actually filed their patent.

With all the hype that has surrounded Bluetooth, its unfortunate that it never actually lived up to it. The ability to stream music or media over Bluetooth has been so limited that the idea of developing that further has actually been abandoned.
With a gap of that magnitude needing to be filled, the newest player to the connectivity game, Ozmo, backed by Intel and partnered with Belkin, is looking to change everything. Using the same power consumption as Bluetooth, but operating on parallel WiFi connections, Ozmo is going to have all the benefits of Bluetooth, with even more perks.

We are happy to announce the arrival of the new BlueStreamer 2 stereo Bluetooth adapter – which is said to offer more features than the first. Of course we wouldn’t expect anything less. The new adapter – which is compatible with Skype – offers BT v2.0, and can support HFP, AVRCP, HSP, and A2DP. If you like to jam to the music than we recommend that you buy this new device – which will only cost you $62 and comes in the spiffy colors of black, white, and pink.

For years motorists have been warned against driving while talking on their cellphone. Many states have even made it illegal and many more are trying. Because of this companies are finding easier and better ways to allow us to talk without endangering our lives.
Bluetrek has created the newest bluetooth car kit – called SurfaceSound – which can be mounted onto your visor. The SurfaceSound allows you to talk without any hands through the mic that picks up everything. However, if you prefer to have some privacy then you can always plug in Bluetrek’s headsets into the USB port which will also charge it up for you.
Bluetrek also has the SurfaceSound Compact – which is lighter and smaller and comes equipped with only the speakers and mic.
