This extravagant replica of the B-9 robot is built exactly to the standards of the original robot used in the “Lost In Space” TV series. This replica is made up of steel, aluminum, fiberglass, and acrylic parts, allowing it to move in several directions. The robot can be directed by a remote-control, allowing you to move it forward and backward on its treads, move its torso left and right, and take a soil sample, just like the robot in the TV show. Along with all of the movements, the robot boasts a 240-Watt speaker system that has more than 500 pre-programmed phrases performed by the original voice of the TV robot. The robot is now on sale by Hammacher for only $25,000.

There are always cool things to see when you visit the ITP Winter Show – but this year was better than anyone expected. There were many cool gadgets to see. Some were cool, some were boring and expected, and some were just completely off the wall and unique that you couldn’t help but get attached to it. One of the most interesting gadgets that was being showcased was the Single White Android.
The Android – which was made up of many twinkle lights (we think) and more saran wrap than most people would like to deal with – stole everyone’s hearts and attention with its ultra sad face and its constant need for attention. All you do to make him happy is to touch him. His stomach turns red when he is upset. (more…)

Today Japan began selling some twisted looking two legged walking robot that is running completly on Microsoft’s new Robotic-ware. One of the demonstrators was controlling the $5000 robot with an Xbox 360 controller. The Demobot was about 14 inches tall and weight 5.5 pounds. I doubt many would flip the 5k bill for one of these, but it sure looks promising.

Today a few venture companies in Western Japan unveiled a ladybug shaped robot that they plan to launch in 2009. The robot will be used to clean public restrooms at rest stops in Japan.
The Ladybot measures about 1-meter tall and 1.35 meter’s long and is being called Lady Bird. It is equipted with water tanks, brushes and tons of other heavy duty tools needed to scrub the dirty floors at the rest area bathrooms. Obstacle detection sensors are built in to allow Lady Bird to safely do it’s thing without running over people’s feet. The robot is also going to be programmed to engage in simple conversations with restroom users. Price? Around $30k
