Intel Strips Centrino Atom Of Name, What To Call It?

g-3 Intel has been passing around the Atom name on a few of their different processors over the past several months. There have been two Atom processors as of late: the Centrino Atom (known in-house as the Menlow chipset) and the Atom (known as either the Silverthorn or Diamondville chipset).

What does this mean for you? Well besides sounding like a fool to the 4 people who know what’s up in the entire world, nothing. The Centrino Atom, used in MIDs and UMPCs is now nameless while the Atom itself gets to keep the name. As Intel figures out exactly what they’re looking to do name wise for the formerly mentioned Centrino Atom, we’ll keep you posted.

Dell Shows Huge SSD Price Drop

g-3

Prices of Solid State Disks (SSD) are dropping like crazy recently. Don’t believe me? Check out what Dell has started offering:

Their XPS line-up has been well known for having versatility all around. But being able to buy a 128GB SSD for the XPS M1330 and M1530 laptops for just $450 is quite the price cut.

While this is nowhere near as good as the type-o we saw reducing the price of the upgraded SSD to $80 less than the regular system, it’s a step in the right direction for the format that everyone is craving to get in larger quantities.

The drives are direct from Samsung too, so that’s got to same something for the quality.

Oncore Power Charges 6 Macbook/iBook Batteries At Once

g-1

Got several Macbooks or iBooks? Perhaps you run an underground Apple triage center? Either way, if you’re in need of rapidly charging multiple Apple laptop batteries at any given time, then perhaps you should check out the Oncore Power’s 6 bay charging station.

This bad boy charges 3 out of the 6 slots at a time, leaving you the ability to fill the other slots or just make is slightly easer for you to snag a battery as you need it. The base model will run you $395 but there are other models that come with additional batteries just in case you only have 1 or 2 yet feel drawn to this gadget.

If third party Apple repairs actually existed successfully, this would be an Apple IT must.

Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 Details Confirmed

gadget-1

More information has finally been revealed regarding the Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 netbook! Following in line with the recent popularity of the netbook craze, Fujitsu has incorporated the convertible aspects of their LifeBook line into a much smaller size. The system offers some high quality specs for a netbook, spouting a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 5.6in WXGA displayer, 64GB SSD, 8 hour battery life, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.

While there still is no word on when the device will hit the streets, the 5 color options for the Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 have been revealed: Ocean Black, Pink Gold, Cool Silver, Fuschia Red, and Luminous Blue.

Intel Calpella Laptop Platform In The Works

wed-3 The Centrino 2 has barely made it’s way out into the wild, but that doesn’t stop Intel for getting started on their new laptop platform codename: Calpella. The plans for this new architecture are, as always, still in flux so much could change between now and it’s actual release. But as of yet, Intel has been pretty clear that this new CPU and integrated chipset will be supporting WiMAX, and wireless b/g/n connectivity.

The integrated chipset they’re planning on using is called the Ibex Peak-M and is suppose to handle a good deal of functionality that past chipset’s couldn’t match. Unfortunately not much more is known about it.

We’ll keep you posted as Intel comes further to the actual development of their new laptop platform.

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 128GB SSD Confusion

wed-1

The 12.1in Lenovo ThinkPad X200 ultra-portable laptop has been a pretty large success as of late considering the options that it offers. Fully loaded, the device can run you upwards of $1,300 with a solid state 80GB hard drive, but yesterdays fiasco has made things even more interesting.

Considering that a 64GB solid state hard drive lists for over $800, the idea that Lenovo would reasonably list a 128GB SSD for configuration would be pretty insane. But when they did list that as an option, and for $70 less then the regular configuration, many people jumped on the idea.

The question now is, will Lenovo actually ship that after they’ve realized their mistake or will they simply cancel the orders?

Lenovo Ideapad S10 Netbook Specs Revealed

S10_red_01

The Lenovo Ideapad S10 netbook has finally received some official details. The device seems to be fairly well equipped and still weighs in just under 2.4 lbs. Holding a Windows XP pre installed OS, 10 inch LED Backlit screen, and a solid Intel Atom N270 under it’s little hood, this device may make some waves in the netbook pool.

They’ve a lot to offer, especially considering that the $399 model offers 512mb of ram and a 80GB hard drive, while the $450 model is 1GB ram and a 160GB hard drive.

Check out the full specs after the break:

Sylvania G Netbook Turns Heads

sylvania_g Sylvania’s first leap into the world of netbooks was a flop to say the least, as they simply rebranded the Cloudbook to suit their needs. With the new G netbook coming closer to launch, not much was expected out of it until the price tag and specs were revealed.

For $299 you’ll be getting a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and an 8.9in screen with 1024×600 resolution. The system itself comes loaded with XP or Ubuntu, but unfortunately you can’t customize it’s ugly appearance.

If they can keep the price tag at this range, look out Asus!

MSI Wind 6-Cell Version Costs $50 More

MSI_Wind_1 Those holding out for a 6-cell MSI Wind will be sad to hear that the longer battery models will actually come with a $50 premium tacked on. This move comes as a surprise considering that when it was initially revealed, the release of a 6-cell version would not cost anything extra. However, now that online retailers are starting to sell these bad boys from between $559 to $599.

That’s pretty awkward when MSI has officially released the MSRP at $549.99. But what’s more awkward is the fact that those who pre-ordered the unit from Buy.com for $499.99 are now being issued a cancellation notice for their MSI Wind.

Not a good second impression MSI.
