Saving Power With Your New LG Monitor

lg-eco-monitor Is your current LCD monitor using enough power to run Los Angeles? Perhaps it’s time you checked out the U.K. bound Flatron W2252TE from LG. The device is a pretty decent size, at 22 inches, can produce a 1680 x 1050 resolution, has a response time of 2ms, a viewing angle of 170 degrees, 250cd/m2 brightness, and an awesome contrast ratio of 10,000:1.

This is all done while using just 45% or 40W of what other monitors of this size and spec currently use power wise. The device may not hit the U.S. shelves for a while, but even with the U.K. launch projected, there still isn’t a set price yet.

BenQ 24-inch V2400W wide screen LCD

BenQ V2400W wide screen LCDBenQ’s new super thin LCD monitor is termed as “a stylish fusion of luxury art and technology” by the company itself. Truth be told, the V2400W is the world’s slimmest 24-inch wide screen monitor which recently won the iF Design Award (take our word when we tell you that for style this is a decent award to hold.) According to the company’s Press Release, “Combining unexpected asymmetry and the aerodynamic curves of the B-2 stealth bomber, the V2400W is the world’s first glimpse into BenQ’s newly evolved Kinergy Design. This unique blend of dynamic energy, kinetic beauty and unconventional perspective elevates technology beyond the utilitarian to opulent art that expresses personal taste, social identity and lifestyle enjoyment.” Personally, I don’t care much about design at least compared to functionality. The V2400W will come with 4000:1 contrast ratio, 16.7 million colors, 160-degree viewing angle, full 1080p HD support and a 2ms response time. The new LCD will be available in North America starting next month for a price that has not yet been determined (expect it to be pretty high, though.)

Lenovo ThinkVision Monitors are now EPEAT Gold qualified

Lenovo logoLenovo whom you might remember as the Asian company that purchased the Desktop and Laptop divisions from IBM a few years ago have managed to earn the EPEAT Gold qualification for more of their LCD computer monitors. Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) is a certification designating a piece of electronic equipment as environment friendly; I bet David Suzuki only uses EPEAT qualified devices. Lenovo’s new environmentally friendly monitors are the ThinkVision L151, L171, L171P, L194 Wide, L190X, L220X Wide, L174 and L197 Wide. Other than satisfying a large number of qualifications, the new ThinkVision monitors are also designed to have lower power requirements due to some clever engineering that does not sacrifice viewing quality. Look for the monitors to be available for purchase starting mid-April.

Best Buy Pulls Isignia 10.5″ Digi Frames Off Shelves

Isignia 10.5″ FrameDigital picture frames are all the rage these days. They may be expensive – but apparently people love to see themselves and their favorite photos in crystal clear color. It’s like taking a step into movie pictures like in Harry Potter. Of course not every frame is perfect as was proven with the new 10.4” Insignia frame. (more…)

We Almost Forgot NEC’s Curved Display At CES

NEC Curved CRVD DisplayIt looks like Alienware wasn’t the only one to be showing off a large curved DLP screen at CES. NEC had their very own CRVD-42DWX+ that supports 2880×900 and which looked almost the same as Alienware’s product. We have a sneaking suspicion that Ostendotech had a hand in creating both for two companies. Looks like there may be some heavy competition already in this area. Unfortunately for NEC many people didn’t even notice that they had one, leaving Alienware to steal the spotlight.

Alienware Introduces Curved DLP Screen

Alienware DLP Curved ScreenWe aren’t even two weeks into the New Year and already we have seen amazing new gadgets and electronics that are making us drool. Yet, none has made as big of an impression as Alienware’s new curved DLP. The new screen – which was created by Ostendotech – will be available at the second half of this year.

Alienware is hiding most of the details (surprise, surprise!) but we were able to find out that they are still working out any kinks to finalize the product. The one seen above is only a prototype – which in our opinion is just fine for us. Unfortunately they aren’t giving us a price on it quite yet. Here’s hoping that it is lower than $3,000.

Samsung Releases SPF Digital Frame With Help From Microsoft

Samsung SPF-38V 8″ Digital FrameSamsung has released their brand new SPF-83V 8” digital photo frame. The new frame was built with the Microsoft Research – which allows users to view their personal photos through a wireless connection in their home and to show them from other sites. All users have to do is to organize them and then upload them individually or as an album directly from their computer to the Windows Live Spaces.

The SPF-83V also has the ability to communicate with Windows Media Player and any open RSS standards. Samsung and Microsoft have been working together for quite some time to create a digital frame that would be easier for consumers to use and would produce better picture quality. Samsung is selling the new SPF-83V for a price of $230.00. (more…)
