The T-Mobile live press conference has just come to an end and it looks like Google Android is going to be a hit. The demo videos they’ve shown has allowed us to see what the phone can really do.
The launch phone will be out for $179 for a 2 year contract on T-Mobile. The launch date is October 22nd and the phone is looking pretty sharp. It weighs about 5.6 ounces and measures up at 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 inches. The screen is a sharp 480 x 320 HVGA display and the phone takes full advantage of the 3G network and GPS.
Of course you’ll be able to take excellent pictures on the 3.1 megapixel camera, talk for up to 5 hours, and take full advantage of the 8GB internal memory.
It is missing Bluetooth stereo and video capture right now. But that’s what apps are for!

Apparently the world isn’t going to be content with Google Android only running on cell phones. John Bruggeman, the chief marketing officer over at Wind River Systems has just recently stated that "We’re starting to see Android get designed in on devices that extend way beyond the phone–things might go in the automobile or things that might go in the home."
This doesn’t really come as a surprise considering the fact that both Wind Rider Systems and Intel are already part of the Android Open Handset Alliance and have discussed putting a Linux based system into a car.
Nobody has put anything final into writing, so we’ll have to see how things progress, but the possibility is clearly there.

Not too sure exactly what makes Microsoft so confident that they can continue to take hits like this in the cell phone market, but apparently Windows Mobile 7 has been pushed back to the second half of 2009.
The last bit of information we had received had been focused on the fact that Windows Mobile 7 was to appear in the early part of 2009. While Microsoft has neither confirmed nor denied this information, it does seem particularly confusing as to why they wouldn’t shut this down with such a huge Google Android announcement today.
If Microsoft is lucky, they’ll have people like HTC busting their butt to make customized tweaks to their out dated operating system. Or perhaps everything will just run Android?

We’ve all seen the continuing “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” commercials that have graced our TV over the past few years. Just recently, we’ve also had a chance to see Microsoft’s version of these ads, simple called “I’m a PC”. While these two big companies fight over terms that they still haven’t properly identified (see also: a Mac is a PC. Windows runs on a PC.), some new gossip has come to light.
The “I’m a PC” ad has supposedly been created on a Mac. Ironic? Sort of. But the truth of the matter is that the entire ad campaign has been made using a Mac.
This isn’t uncommon for video production to be done on a Mac. It’s not like the studio doing the ad was based within Microsoft. That’s just how they decided to do it. Unfortunately, this is going to blow up in their faces.
I’m still stuck on the fact that nobody realizes a PC is just hardware……

While the rest of the world has to sit and wait, those lucky reviewers over at Crackberry got a chance to test out the latest phone in the BlackBerry line up, the Javelin. The easiest way for them to compare out the Javelin was to size it up against the Curve and the Bold. Turns out that the Javelin is much smaller then both models and even offers a sharper 480 x 360 HVGA+ screen. The camera, CPU, and even the memory improved greatly over the Curve, making it a great follow up phone.
Right now there’s still no official release date for the BlackBerry Javelin nor has any pricing information been revealed. But with a review copy being passed out, chances are we’ll see some of that shortly.

Pentax has been working on a brand new addition to their line up, the Photokina. Apparently the German company has leaked a few images out for their latest design, and they look rather sharp. What we’ve got so far is confirmed information that this camera is in fact an entry level DSLR camera, providing 10.2 MP and a sharp 2.7 inch screen.
You won’t be getting any Live View out of this camera, but with an ISO of 3200 and fps of 3.5 all for just 500 euro’s, you can’t really complain. Well you could, but you could also just not buy it…

Got a ton of cell phones that you still use? We’re talking multiple cell phones from different makers that are all still active? Well if that’s the case, then chances are you’ve been dreaming of this charger. This ugly little brick has ports for 8 different connectors including Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens, and Sony Ericcson. Don’t expect it to be comfortable to carry around either, as it doesn’t come with a case and is quite pokey with all those chargers.
While your cell phone bill may be through the rough, this charger will only run you $18.

Ready to start building the ultimate Star Wars Lego set? We’ve had a chance to witness the Death Star Lego diorama in many different places. We’ve even seen its construction in a time lapse video. But now the ultimate nerd collectors item and hobby for the rest of the month is now available.
We’re talking 3,803 pieces and 24 mini figures. That’s almost $.10 per piece at the price of $400! Hope you saved up your money or are patient enough to wait for Christmas. And remember to cover up that vent this time around, ok?

We’ve been trying to grasp why Apple keeps blacklisting useful apps. For example, the latest app blacklisted that we find extremely useful is Podcaster.
Now, Podcaster was built exactly to the SDK specifications and actually allows you to download and manage any podcast you would like on the fly. Sounds really useful, doesn’t it?
Well Apple decided that it shouldn’t be on the App Store for the following reason: “Since Podcaster assists in the distribution of podcasts, it duplicates the functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes.”
Think about it for a second. As David Chartier from ArsTechnica made clear, there are a clear abundance of calculator and stopwatch apps for the iPhone. Doesn’t the iPhone do that on it’s own already?
The developers are doing their best to keep this app alive by providing it Ad Hoc for a donation of $9.99. While Apple can shut that down at any point, the developers claim to be trying their hardest to keep everything together for at least one year. Check out their website for more info.

The quest for the ability to properly hide that you’re looking at porn on your computer has come to a three way stand off. Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox all have active (or will by the launch of their next beta) a method that will allow users to ensure their privacy when doing private things.
Internet Explorer 8 calls their mode InPrivate.
Google Chrome calls their mode Incognito.
But as of yet, Firefox does not have a name for their privacy mode that will be launching with next months Firefox beta 3.1.
Let’s hope it’s something witty.
