The rumors are begining to solidify a little bit more as the most recent batch of 80GB PS3’s that have hit the market may actually be running the 65nm RSX GPU.
What does this mean to the average consumer? Well, unless you’re looking to buy a brand new PS3 or upgrade your existing one, not too much. The 65nm processor will of course run at a lower voltage overall, but it won’t be making your games run any smoother.
The only tests so far that have lead to any evidence supporting this claim have been a drop in the power usage by these units while running and idle as well. These support the claims that this chip might be in use as that’s one of the only ways that the system could be running at a lower voltage compared to the older 40GB units.
