PS1The Apevia 750w LCD Quartz power supply is by far the most impressive looking power supply I have ever come into contact with.   A black finish with several blue highlighted features does allow the unit to stand out for any tower intended for a LAN party.  While that is probably far from the main reason that the unit should be bought, 750 watts of adjustable power with an LCD screen displaying constant stats on the unit being the real reason, it certainly doesn’t hurt.  It should be warned that while this power supply is designed from the ground up to be hardcore mod-friendly, it is not at all designed with a new user in mind.

Upon opening the box it is easy to notice a very clear design flaw with the power supply, there is a fan mounted on the top of the unit.  While this does manage to do a wonderful job of keeping the power supply cool it does a terrible job of fitting into almost any case available on the market.  While the unit can be mounted upside-down in any ATX case this causes the issue of the handy LCD screen being upside down during use.  This does cause the massive problem of rendering the screen almost worthless without the purchase of a specialty case.

While managing to be rare in design and function the power supply also manages new footing with a manual that offers very little information.  Not mentioning that the supply needs to be mounted upside-down in most cases it also does not highlight any of the more mod friendly areas of the units design either.  While it does come with a mini-screw driver, that is sure to get lost days after installation, to turn the voltage from one setting to the next it does not explain anything about the benefits of doing so.  While this is probably not an issue for those looking for a mod-capable power supply, it should be pointed out that this is not the unit for people building their first or even second computer.

Visually the unit does sit in a case rather well, while upside down.  The wires come standard fully sleeved to prevent clutter and an overall organized look within the case.  This is nice to see considering that it still seems to be rather hit and miss with power supplies to have cables that come sleeved or not.

The power supply itself does a wonderful job of running almost anything that you can throw at it.  With 750w of power backing the unit it is hard to even make the unit stutter even with high grade video cards and three hard drives connected.  While it does seem a little bit excessive to have such a large power supply it should always be remembered that it is better to have too much power in a system than to have too little.

Having an adjustable fan speed always at hand is rather nice if it is found that the unit is running a little too hot for comfort.  At its lowest settings the fans manage to be rather quiet without much issue.  When turned up to a higher setting the fans do start to become rather noticeable.  This does not become much of an issue until well after the unit is turned past the halfway mark.  For those that are looking to keep an ultra cool case this is a nice choice and the fans never really reach a super loud level.

The Apevia 750w Quartz Power Supply is a great choice for those looking for a high end, very powerful unit that they can monitor constantly and modify with a great deal of care.  For those that are looking for a good everyday power supply that they can easily place into a new computer and simply forget about this is not the unit for you.  This unit is relatively well priced for the power that it is giving, and their does seem to be several forums that discuss its finer uses this is simply not a power supply for everyone.
